CHANGES COMING FOR THE 2011 BANGOR CAR SHOW: WHEELS ON THE WATERFRONT
The Bangor Car Show Committee and I would like to thank you for your participation, patience and flexibility with the 2010 Bangor Car Show: Wheels on the Waterfront. This was our third year running the show and we encountered some unique obstacles - some we anticipated, others a complete surprise.
One of the largest unexpected challenges that we encountered the morning of the show was changing the entire layout of the grounds for the safety of the cars. The rainy days leading up to the show muddied the field and some of the equipment used in the concert the night before created deep ruts within our parking areas. These issues needed to be addressed before any of your cars hit the field. We apologize again for the delay in parking.
We wanted to let you know that your concerns with the show have been heard and fill you in on the anticipated changes for our 2011 show:
1) Location Change: The 2011 Bangor Car Show: Wheels on the Waterfront will still be taking place on the Waterfront but closer to the water! With the Waterfront Concert Series taking off and booking more acts for 2011, the committee decided to change the car show location. As an added plus, much of this area is surfaced, eliminating many of our environmental obstacles.
We will be having a linear layout for the show, which will be located between the waterfront and the railroad tracks (extending off of Front Street – where registration has been held in previous years). Familiar with the American Folk Festival? We will be having our show on the road that leads to the dance tent. Keeping the unique waterfront location of the show was very important to the committee.
2) Registration Changes: a. Pre-Registration: We are exploring the option of having a pre-registered “drive-thru” with two or more lanes directing you to a registration station. All forms, paperwork, display cards, and t-shirts (if you are one of the first 100 to pre-register) will be given out at the front gate in a one-stop process. This is the only stop that we will be asking you to make. Once through the registration gate, you are off to park and enjoy your day! b. Day of Registration: Cars that want to register day of the show will have to park and go to a registration tent located in the Harbor Master’s parking lot (to the left of the registration gate). This will be the only stop that you will have to make and once registered you are off to park and enjoy the day!
3) Car Class Changes: The Bangor Car Show committee is still in discussions regarding class structure for the 2011 show. Please visit our website, www.BangorCarShow.com, after the beginning of the year to see the new structure.
Again, we thank you for your participation and patience. The host of the Bangor Car Show: Wheels on the Waterfront is the Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau. This is a non-profit organization aimed at making the Greater Bangor area a preferred destination for visitors. Hope to see you on the Waterfront on Saturday, September 10, 2011!
Kerrie Tripp, Executive Director of the Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau
